Discussion

Could this be from a Tyrannus tyrannus? If not, I'd like to know what species from another country like Spain it would be from (I'm not sure if I picked it up in Costa Rica or on a trip to Europe long ago, but I recently found it in my house).

Definitely a dove feather to begin with. I think you found this one in spain. It looks like a european turtle dove tail feather (oriental turtle doves absent in spain except for some specific areas where they’re still rare, while european turtle doves are a lot more common there in summer, that’s why i believe it’s way more possible that this is from a european turtle dove). Not from tyrannus tyrannus because of its size, and it doesn’t look similar to the feathers of any common costa-rican dove based on google images of the birds’ tails. I’ll catch up later if i find anything else, but i don’t think i will. I’m just gonna stick to the european turtle dove for now.
