These feathers were found in amongst Alaskan material from Point Hope and are part of the Scott Polar Research Institute collection in Cambridge UK. Where originated from is unkown (i.e. they could have been traded/ transported), but if they originated in Alaska, what species could they be from? I was thinking Red Phalarope in breeding plumage perhaps. Any ideas?

These are most certainly not from a waterbird, so the red pharalope is out of the question. There aren’t many purely red birds in america, but if these feathers are indeed from that country then they’re from a species of parrot (like a red-and-green macaw for example). If they were found in another country, then they could be from pretty much anything...

Scarlet macaw also possible*
